The
Housatonic Valley Council of Elected Officials (HVCEO) is
a voluntary regional coordinating body maintained by ten municipalities
in western Connecticut.
The ten members are Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Danbury,
New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, Redding, Ridgefield and
Sherman. The Council's regional planning jurisdictional boundary
is set by the State of Connecticut.
The HVCEO mission is to make the Housatonic Valley Region
a better place to live, do business and visit thru coordinated
planning and cooperative approaches.
HVCEO was founded by its member communities in 1968, its creation
authorized by Title 4, Chapter 50, Section
4-124c of State Statutes. Like municipalities
HVCEO is a "subdivision of the state."
The Council
has the responsibility under federal law to prepare a regional
transportation plan, and under state law a regional
growth management plan.
HVCEO provides a continuing forum on municipal management
and planning and maintains a
vigorous research program. A
history of Council
activities since 1968 is available.
The
office is located in Brookfield, CT in the Old Town Hall,
shown at right, at the intersection of Routes 25 and 133,
162 Whisconier Road; directions.
Office hours are 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Monday thru Friday.

Similar regional councils are operating in 14
other planning regions in Connecticut, as shown on
this
statewide map.
Access to research reports relating to community planning and governmental
topics is available to local officials and the public. Inquiries
from the public concerning HVCEO's activities are welcome.
