The Housatonic Valley Council of Elected Officials (HVCEO) is
a regional coordinating body maintained by ten municipalities
in western Connecticut. The ten members are Bethel, Bridgewater,
Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown,
Redding, Ridgefield and Sherman.
The HVCEO mission is to make the Housatonic Valley Region
a better place to live, do business and visit thru coordinated
planning and cooperative approaches.
HVCEO was founded in 1968, its creation authorized by
Title 4, Chapter 50, Section 4-124c of CT State Statutes.
The Council prepares a regional
transportation plan, a regional
growth plan and maintains a
vigorous research program.
A significant portion of the HVCEO service to municipal
members is in the form of providing on-going regionalized
HVCEO IN LEAD ROLE:
--- Annual meeting with Area Legislators, breakfast in December
to advocate for municipal and regional needs prior to legislative

Public Health Emergency Planning Committee, health directors
meet monthly at office, staff participates and provides

Directors Planning Group, quarterly rotating between emergency

Directors Annual Luncheon, to network and review consultant’s
report comparing bargaining unit agreements.
--- HVCEO Tick Illness Prevention Task
Force, meets every other month at office, staff provides

Department Staff, annual discussion session and periodic
meetings with state planning staff.
--- Annual Sexual Harassment
Prevention Training, provided each June for newly hired
municipal supervisory staff.
HVCEO IN PARTICIPATORY ROLE:
--- Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority, HVCEO provides
office space and minor administrative support.
--- Western CT Economic
Development Alliance, staff has board membership, provides
financial and administrative support, meets every other
month at Danbury Chamber. HVCEO hosts organization’s web

Works Professionals for the Housatonic Valley, staff assists
meetings held every other month rotating between municipalities,
administered by the Danbury Public Works Department.

MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL
of the Council are the ten chief elected officials in the area,
two mayors and eight first selectman.
They meet monthly except during the summer months to supervise regional
planning efforts, conduct workshops, and exchange information to
improve municipal management.
Some meetings are dedicated to dialogues with state legislators, state agency
staff, emergency planners and social service agencies.
