The first hiking group to hike the entire Ives Trail completed the hike on National Trails Day, June 3, 2006.

On a cool day in late spring with 3 hours of steady rain in early afternoon, leader Mike Cunningham and 13 other hikers left Bennetts Pond in Ridgefield at 7AM, took time for lunch, and finished wet and tired at Terre Haute in Bethel about 5:30 PM.

On the same day 5 runners who started later, and finished earlier, also completed the entire trail.
